In 2016, curator Wahsontiio Cross curated the exhibition Convergence: space and time in contemporary Indigenous art in Canada for Global Affairs Canada. The exhibition was held at the Lester B. Pearson Building (125 Sussex) from June 21 to July 20th. From this exhibition, Indigenous works of art were purchased for the Global Affairs Fine Art Collection, and two of Ace’s work were acquired: Interface and Binesi (Thunderbird) Bandolier Bag.
Binesi (Thunderbird) Bandolier Bag was sent to New York City where it is installed in the offices of the Consulate General of Canada, while Interface was sent to Paris, France and installed in the new Embassy of Canada located on 130 rue du Faubourg Saint-Honore, Paris, France. The official opening of the new Embassy and Canadian Cultural Centre was held on May 17, 2018 and Global Affairs Canada marked the occasion with a deluxe publication documenting the history and renovation of the historic building and highlighted the works of art and artists installed throughout the Embassy. Her Excellency Isabelle Hudon, Ambassador of Canada to France writes in her introduction:
“Today for the first time, Canada’s diplomacy and cultural presence in Paris come together under one roof. By integrating the Canadian Cultural Centre, with its open public gallery, into the heart of the building, we offer a unique gathering place where our diplomacy, culture and values shine. The singular architectural design of this emblematic building live up to the City of Light’s Haussmannian heritage and reflects both Canada’s modernity and its openness to the world.
In France, where culture is ubiquitous, the richness and diversity of Canada’s artistic expression are key aspects of our presence.”
